Summer Camp - Merit Badge Prerequisites

Posted by dstokes on Mar 21 2014 - 2:41pm

Because of the ever changing and updating requirements for merit badges, Chawanakee will not be publishing a set list of 2014 pre-requisite requirements for merit badges. They are asking us to help you prepare for merit badge classes by making yourselves familiar with the current requirements for classes that you want to participate in.  Please look through the requirements carefully, and with an adult leader and/or merit badge counselor, plan to complete any requirements that are not reasonable for the summer camp setting.  Any requirements that are time sensitive past 5 days are not possible to complete on site. Example: Visiting different museums may not be achievable during your stay at camp.  Here are the ones I have found from the 2013 information as well as various merit badge day documentation.  If you have these suggested ones completed you should be covered.  All other merit badges not listed below do not have pre-requisites.

It takes a whole unit to develop a leader

Below is an article from the Orange County Council Leadership Development Chair, Rich Galpin. The article does a great job of explaining the importance of developing youth and adult leaders…not just sending them to a training course and believing they are “trained”. The calendar page of the troop website has current information and registration details about all youth and adult leadership development courses offered in the Orange County Council. A few that may catch your attention…
